wp-image-274228254jpg.jpgThis is a picture collage of a paper pack and its contents I bought at Michael’s this summer.  The pack was full of beautiful colors and designs that were gold embossed.  On this particular day, Michael’s had their paper packs that were usually $19.99 marked down to $5.00.

I fell in love with this paper – however, I would never pay $19.99 for this paper.  When I saw the gold flowers in the bottom right corner of the collage,  I immediately thought… I can fussy cut up and use every, single, inch of that piece of paper and…

Mariahs Butterfly Mobile

My young friend has been spending a lot of time with me during her summer break making crafts. She loves crafting as much as I, well almost. We picked out bright papers at Michaels to go with her bedroom colors. She saw the mobile I made from Baby Shower papers and fell in love with my idea.

For this project you need a butterfly punch (mine is Martha Stewarts) , illusion cord, 2 embroidery hoops (larger and smaller) paper or scrapbook paper, pkg. of assorted mirrors, 3 different ribbons and a thinner ribbon for hanging. You will only use one of each embroidery hoops. Mariahs’ sister is going to make herself one with the other 2 hoops.

We cut the 3 ribbons 4″. I learned, but after doing it of course, that it’s easier to put the strands of butterflies on before tying on the ribbons. I cut 4 lengths of the thinner pink and white polka dot ribbons to 2′. You have to judge how long you want your mobile, and how high your ceiling is. Tie them onto the first larger hoop. Then cut 3 of the same thinner ribbon into 8″ lengths. these will tie onto larger hoop to smaller hoop with about a 4″ drop. This will create the two different levels

After cutting out dozens of butterflies with 4 different scrapbook pages, it was time to put them on. I then took the illusion cord and put a large clip on the end to keep strand in place. Mariah took one butterfly, and put the illusion cord on, then a drop of hot glue, then another butterfly on top

When our first strand was done, we tied it onto the hoop. For the larger hoop we put about 12 sets of butterflies and one set of mirrors on the end to keep the strand taut. The smaller hoop we put 8 sets of butterflies and one set of mirrors.

TP Birds in Branches

Don’t throw out those toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls! There are so many creative projects you can do with them! I have been trying to figure out what to put atop a large closet. It’s a textured wall, so options were limited.
My inspiration came from this runner on my dining room table, and lots of empty toilet paper rolls people have been saving for me!

All you need for this project is some toilet paper rolls, 3 paper towel rolls, white glue and paint if you want.

To begin,I flattened the toilet paper and paper rolls first. It’s easier to cut them this way, and you can be more consistent. For the branches I used the paper towel roll because they are longer. I cut down the center of the roll. Then cut 1/4″ strips for the branches. To make the birds, I did the same with a couple toilet paper rolls.

I then drew a pic of a bird, then I traced it on the paper towel roll. The paper towel roll is wider than toilet paper. After I made the bird shape, I added more to where the wing would be, to make it a little dimensional.

To make the leaves, you use some toilet paper rolls. Flatten a bit and make small cuts, forming the leaves. Glue leaves together with white glue, then use a paper clip or clothespins to hold till dry.
Hang with tiny clear pushpins, double sided tape, or glue on white paper or on rustic wood pieces.

What’s so nice about this is…..it’s free. Except for the white glue and paint I already had. To make the bird more 3D, I added a layer of same paper towel roll to wings. These are examples of covering them with craft paper:
 thank you for looking…enjoy!!!

Baby Shower Mobile

This is such a sweet way to re purpose the gift paper and ribbon as a sweet memento from your baby shower. I made this for my granddaughter.

All you need for this project is 2 Embroidery hoops of different sizes… Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch, plastic string, ribbon and paper from baby shower.

what-you-will-need

I first took the blue and pink ribbon from baby shower and cut them into 6″ strips.

I tied them around the 2 embroidery hoops. I then took 3 long ribbons to make as hanger and tied them on the bigger hoop. Then I took 3 smaller ribbons and tied from top larger hoop to smaller hoop. I let the smaller hoop hang about 4-5″ below top hoop.

I cut out lots and lots of butterflies…Love this punch! After all butterflies were cut out, I hot glued a butterfly on each side of string and held a second then continued this all the way down. After cutting out dozens of butterflies with 4 different scrapbook pages, it was time to put them on. I then took the illusion cord and put a large clip on the end to keep strand in place. Then I took one butterfly, and put the illusion cord on, then a drop of hot glue, then another butterfly on top
