You Can Do What With Pool Noodles?

Pool Noodles are not just for the pool. So many clever hacks can be done with these. The best part is they are large for a project and they are only $1. So get to your local Dollar Store, or go online and have it shipped to your local store for free. Just grab some noodles because you’re going to find these projects amazing!!!

Say you want to put something on the top of your new SUV, but want to protect it. Slit two noodles in half and tape them on. The cushioning keeps the item from scratching, denting, and keeps the item from rattling. You still need to tie the item down, but this idea will protect your car.

Here’s a simple way to cover trampoline springs to guard against pinched fingers. Cut a pool noodle into short sections, slice lengthwise and slide them over the springs. You child will be so much safer with this idea.

Okay, this next one is what I use in my garage to keep the trunk from hitting the garage door.

When you open the liftgate of your van, car, or SUV, it’s easy to hit a cross brace of the garage door and chip the paint on the gate. Protect it by using a swim noodle as a cushion. Just slit the swim noodle with a utility knife and slip it over the brace. You can also use pre-slit foam pipe insulation. If it slips off, use double-face tape to hold it in place. – Mary Sprang

My doggies would be scared to death if I tried this one. But if you have a doggie that loves the water and isn’t ‘scared little babies’, this would be awesome for them. I had a cocker spaniel that loved the water. I remember putting her on a raft in the pool. This is less worry over the raft popping.fh18djf_583_08_500.jpg

Pool Float

Just tie these pool noodles together for a fun water raft that won’t deflate! You’ll need five large pool noodles (4-1/2″ diameter ), 2 medium-sized noodles (2-1/4″ diameter), 6 ft of 1/2 ” PVC pipe, 36 feet of nylon cord. To begin, lash the five large noodles together using a double half-hitch knot. Next place the cord in between and around each of the noodles, securing them together into a raft. When you get to the noodle on the end, turn around and lace them again back to the beginning. End with another double half-hitch knot. Cut the cord close to the knot. Now cut the smaller noodles to get three lengths equal to the width of the raft. Thread three PVC pipes through the holes in the three smaller noodles, then thread the cord through the PVC and use nylon cord to attach each short noodle to the large noodles. Tie one noodle at each end and one in the middle to increase stability and make the raft more rigid.

Living in the desert I don’t have this problem, but I know some of you do!

Each year I mark the boundaries of my yard so the snowplow driver doesn’t damage my lawn. For years I used rebar along the perimeter, but the driver couldn’t see it at night. Even with reflectors on the rebar, it would still get hit, bent or broken. Now I’ve found a better solution. I slip a brightly colored swim noodle over the rebar. You can’t miss the markers now. – Bill Remia

This next one is a idea I use to protect my legs on a ladder. My steps on my ladder aren’t round as this picture shows. What I do is place it on the same way as below but, I use duct tape to keep the noodle on.

I spent a lot of time on my ladder painting, hanging lights, etc. Leaning against the steps all day takes a toll on my shins and thighs. Then I got smart and slit pieces of some pool noodles lengthwise and wrapped them around the front of the steps. Instant relief! The cushions are easy to move as you work. Just make sure you never stand on them, and always place them higher than you’ll step since they can create an uneven step or fall off if you step on them.

Keep your Boots at Attention!
This is such a fabulous way to keep your boots from flopping over when not using. Just stick a pool noodle in the boot, and they will stand at attention!
This next one is a fabulous idea. Don’t you hate it when you take a pair of slacks out of the closet off the hanger and there is a crease?fh18djf_583_08_300.jpg
Just measure, cut and wrap around the hanger. Not only does it keep from creasing, but your pants won’t roll off the hanger.
This next one is great for mowing the lawn!

Dislike mowing the lawn because the vibration? If you suffer with arthritis in your hands? This eases the vibration and is so much more comfortable.

 My garage is full of tools, boxes and bins filled with Holiday Decorations. Some days it is a trick to just squeeze my car in, and I got tired of banging my car door on the wall every time I opened it. I attached half a pool noodle to the wall as a bumper and now I can get out of the car without fear of dinging the garage wall or my car door. Is this not a awesome idea!

Keep your watercolor brushes dry and handy! Cut a short section of pool noodle, slice it part of the way through and insert brushes.

Use a pool noodle for a wreath form. Fasten the noodle with duct tape, then wrap it with fabric, ribbon or string. Wrap wire around the stems of fabric flowers and poke it through the fabric to anchor it into the noodle. Hang the wreath using wire or a picture hook.

Now…just in case you have never tried to cut a pool noodle, here is a easy way to do so.
How to slice a noodle: Use a serrated knife to cut the noodle into sections.

  1. This black cat looks exactly like my Barmalei, but his head rest is on my breast. I think he means to make my husband jealous, and he succeeds! However, I am going to wrap those thingies around hangers – that’s brilliant! – and persuade my husband to use them on top of the roof rack of the car instead of an old bedspread I had issued for that purpose. Thank you so much, darling! You rock!

    1. So funny…my little gidget lies across my breast like it’s a ledge….haha. Not too long ago I put her inside my top in my bra, she would stick her head out, so cute…..yes, I’m wierd.

        Barmalei is quite big (some call him “majestic”), so he would not fit and would not deign to get into my bra. It is undignified for a Main Chief Cat!

      2. Not for a crafty, loved alot, doggie. Mostly I wore my sports bra on walks with her so she fit.Now she is a big girl, almost 6 lbs, I take them with me about everywhere I go.

      8. Wait, I know this is confusing, but Barmalei and Beba and siblings, and they are 9 years old. Pyshka was rescued by a handsome Spanish cop across the street from our house a little more than a year ago. She is still a baby, and she has your coloring (my husband’s coloring as well, and his green eyes).

      10. Yes, Pyshka is not their sibling, but an adopted child, and very much accepted. Barmalei is the wise and protective older brother, very dignified, but loving and affectionate. His sister Beba was the beauty of the family, until Pyshka came along, but Beba is so good-natured that she doesn’t mind. Actually, Beba is short for Bella, which means Beautiful. Barmalei is a Russian boogieman, because he is black, but not scary at all. And Pyshka is a sweet roll. She is the color fo a well-baked roll, and she is very sweet.

      16. Not really spoiled, just well behaved and well loved. It was my husband who called Barmalei majestic when we first met him and his sister Beba. They were tiny 3-week old babies, but the black one already had a proud demeanor, and the little girl was the cutest black and white ball of fluff. 😻

      18. First we spent two devasgtating weeks when Shabbos the Cat passed away. Then we both decided that a house without a cat is not a home. I did a search of local rescue organizations, and found this picture of a cutest black kitten, so we came for him and saw his sister. My husband picked her up and said, “I am not letting this one go.” So we took both, and are very happy we did. 😹😻

      1. LOL Pool noodles, silly! Went to $ store yesterday and got them already – project for next week. Right now we are gradually cleaning construction dust. It’s finished! I got my beautiful new floor, gorgeous mosaic tile in the bathroom, and no holes in the ceiling! Oh, and a new stove, too. Meanwhile, my refrigerator kicked the bucket, so I go a new one as well. One very tired, but happy trooper – that’s me!

      17. Hanging on the phone, trying to make sure my husband has a referral to a specialist for tomorrow’s appointment, said referral promised to be faxed several times during the past two weeks. Now it turns out that they don’t have authorization # from his insurance company. It’s the usual thing; I am glad I am on Medicare and don’t have to go through this insanity every time I need a specialist.

      18. Me too! My dr is hooking me up with help at the house…which is great! YOU have to stay on them. Paperwork takes time with them. Just tell him to stay off his feet, and be a couch potato till he sees the dr. I would also get a second opinion. I did, and so glad I did, otherwise, I wouldn’t have the dr. that just did the spine surgery.

      19. He doesn’t have to stay off his feet as he is not in pain, but this apointment is crucial for him to get meds on the basis of test results. I always stay on them; I am my husband’s personal secretary.
        I am glad you are getting house help – your dr is an angel! I have to pay for help out of my own pocket.

      28. He is not a baby already – he is 8 now – and he is the second youngest; the youngest is also a girl. But even when he was a baby, nobody would dare dress him as a girl! He has always been such a little guy! They do spoil him terribly, though. When he wants something, he doesn’t even have to say it; he just makes a face, and all females rush to serve. And when doesn’t like something, he never says anything, just makes a face, and all females bend over backwards trying to figure out what to correct. A prince, but still a very good kid, thank G-d!

      36. I am experimenting in the kitchen, and very happy to be there! I also have the end of semester usual avalanche of student papers, so busy-busy! The Boss (my husband) is trying to restore bathroom vanity, using your idea of decoupaged table. I am taking pics of his progress and will report to you when it is done.

      38. He is using Plastic Wood to patch up the places where wood rotted through. Then he is sanding the entire surface down, to make it smooth. On Sunday, I am going shopping for something suitable to put under epoxy that will look good on top of an antique table and under Mexican ceramic sink that is very colorful. What happened was, when we originally remodelled, 18 years ago, the handiman covered that surface with some kind of protective shiny goo and claimed it was waterproof. He lied. It wasn’t, and in a couple of places wood rotted through. But the table looks so beautiful under that gorgeous sink that I don’t want to throw it away, if it could be fixed. Your table gave me an idea.

      46. I am taking pics of every step of the process. I don’t think anything final will be done before we leave, though, because that goo has to dry before it gets sanded, as you know much better than I!

      48. He is using plastic wood goo that settles down a bit when it dries, and humidity has been unbelievable – we are breathing water. So he has to keep adding more of it and waiting for t to dry. Then he will sand it down, and as to what kind of surface, I don’t know yet. That’s my Sunday project. Whatever we use, he’ll cover it with clear epoxy. Any suggestions?

      50. The sink is Mexican handmade ceramic, done in bright primal colors, the walls are ceramic tiles, and th enew floor is glass mosaic in matching colors. The vanity stand is antique wood. I think any stone top will clash. Went to Home Depot today to explore options. Found wood stain that should cover that plastic wood nicely and match the color and texture of the rest of that vanity stand. Then we’ll use clear epoxy on top, to make it waterproof. All of this will happen when we come back, hopefully!

      66. I was abducted years ago. Now with this neck brace on, at night I am dreaming I am confined. I am tugging at the brace in my sleep. Last night I woke myself and was walking around still half asleep. My brace was half off in the front from my tugging. The weirdest, scary feeling. What if I took off the brace??? How do I keep myself from tugging at it in my sleep?

      76. I’m allergic to everything else! Even some antibiotics, scents, fragrances, probably every weed, tree there is. But thankfully I have been getting my allergy shots, I am down to 1 every 4 wks! It works, and is so worth it! I’m not even allergic to my doggie anymore.

    1. Did you know…if you want to take a break from painting….you can put the tray, paint roller, and brush in the fridge. Just place in plastic bag. I have left it in for a few hours, and it as good as new!
