Most kids love the beach! Making sandcastles, playing in the waves, and let’s not forget, collecting seashells. When my sons were young, we spent a lot of summer vacations at the beach. They collected a lot of shells! The bigger ones we put in different crafts, but what about those little ones. Most of the time those were the only ones found. I kept them all these years.
Aren’t these just adorable!
This is what you will need for this project:
- Wine or Glass Bottle w/cork or cap
- Sand- You can purchase at Walmart or a Craft Store or a big bag at Home Improvement Store!
- Shells
- Picture
- String, Sisal, or Twine
- Hot Glue
- Funnel
The sand above is actually from the beach that the kids found these shells!
I used a funnel to transfer the sand into the bottle.
I added the shells. The hole is small, so it worked out perfectly for all the small shells to fit inside the hole. My sons always seemed to find those small shells.
I didn’t want that panoramic view, so I cut the sides of picture just to see in back of bottle. Then you gently roll your photo, printed side in. I used a skewer to poke it down and position it.
I used a skewer to straighten out the pic in the back. After I straightened and pushed the picture up against the back wall of the bottle, I buried the picture just a little bit in the sand.
Next, I took some string and wrapped it around the top.
On the bottle to the left, I took a piece of string and a larger shell, glue both ends to inside the shell. It forms a hoop, to hang on bottle. Pic on right, I just left a long piece of string dangle after wrapping around the top. I hot glued larger shells along the string.
What is so special about this is the pic of the kids at the beach, searching for shells! Perfect keepsake for memories. You can create your own memories…please check out my some of my other original shell projects
Love this one! My kids loved the beach too!

Those are so cute! Your beach memory is adorable. I love your easy crafts!
For those of us that don’t go to the beach, I wonder if a dark brown sand could be used, with maybe a little artificial pine branch, a few pretty pebbles, and a couple of tiny fully dried pine cones. Then tie a heavier jute around the neck with a tiny pine cone. Insert a picture of a kid in a hoodie…..
Thinking a cool hands on craft for workshop…..
(Dear Mind, quit dreaming up ideas, you don’t have time!) ;d
