Window Privacy

Hello everyone! This is a re post of a idea I had about a year ago. I keep getting asked for the link, so I thought I would just re post this wonderful idea I created.

I wanted to bring it back to you and anyone who hasn’t seen this post yet. I did it in my home I just sold 😦   I miss that home. So many first time projects I had done in that home, lots of sweet memories. So without further ado, here it is:

I am so excited to share this project with you. I have a long window next to my front door. I don’t like having to put a heavy curtain there, it makes the room so dark. If I put up a sheer, it lets in the light, but anyone can see into the house.

So what can I do to the window so I can see out of it  when the doorbell rings? I want to be able to see out, but people not see in….and let the sunshine in!

This is the window by my front door. Right now the sun is on the other side of the house, but in the morning the sun comes brightly through this window. So what did I do??? How did it turn out??

Wow what a difference!!! Here is what it looks like from outside looking in:

Do you see how from the outside…it just shows reflection of the fountain, not inside!

So what did I do? I applied this…

I did this window with almost 2 bottles. You can find it on Amazon here

So…how did I do it?? How do you apply it? Well it is sooooo easy! Can you finger paint swirls? Then you can do this.This is the first time I ever had tried this product. It is white, but dries clear.

I started by pouring 1 bottle into a glass bowl. I covered the floor area and window seal with a old sheet. I used painters tape all around the sides of the window.  Now this is where it gets fun….yes, I said fun! Starting from the top, start spreading on the stuff with your fingers. Yes, I said your fingers! I just did little swirls with my fingers, like finger painting. If you glop (Is that a word?) it on…be sure to work it in. You don’t want any heavy globs. Just little circles all around. This is a up close look….

Do you see how with just the first coat how you already can’t see in very well? When I was finished with the first coat, I went back added more but smaller circles this time.

I know what your thinking….yes it looks a mess!

At this point, I was nervous…but you know me by now…that doesn’t stop me!

I am so happy with it!! I can see out…they can barely see in, very obscured.

I was thinking…a friend of mine spent loads of money on his side window by door. He got the waterfall look, or rain look. It would be interesting to try that. But alas, my home is Mediterranean style, not mid-century modern.

another great feature…dries fast…after a couple of days…you can clean using windex!

Gallery Glass also comes in so many colors.

My doggie would jump on my sliding door each time the gardener was using the blower. Diesel hates the sound of that machine. Anyway, he scratched up the window with his claws. This is what saved the slider door. I did the Gallery Glass half way up. Now, if he jumps up on the window, he only scratches the Gallery Glass. I can easily put some on the scratched area, and that’s it, problem solved.

The home I’m in now has a large window, instead of a wall, inside my shower/tub area. So strange the way this house is laid out. Anyway, I did this to the window glass halfway up so I can still sit in the bath or shower and see the stars in the sky. I also did this to a door with a window, and a sliding door, wonderful privacy.

You can’t go wrong with the way I did it with my fingers! Your kids can help!! No experience needed. Most of the projects in my blog, are my own first time trials.

How To Remove if Needed:

I have had mine up for over 1 1/2 years now with no problems. I am moving again and I removed the whole window piece, by getting a corner loose and it removes all in one plastic-like piece. Does not stain or harm your window in any way.

The Update

The window over the bath that I used the Gallery Glass on was becoming spotty with horrid white water spots. You can use Windex on your window, but I now use a mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle and keep it in the bath area. I sprayed the window, and the white spots came off without having to wipe!
